(Denmark, WI) January 28– Nearly 220 drivers, track officials and race fans arrived at Pott’s Beverly Gardens Saturday as the 2011 Luxemburg Speedway champions were crowned at the annual awards banquet.

Luxemburg native Benji LaCrosse put a whooping on his foes, winning the Budweiser IMCA modified track title by 50 points over Algoma’s James Lee Tebon. A total of 55 different modified drivers raced in weekly events at the track.

Pulaski’s Larry “Junior” Karcz captured his first ever Badgerland Concrete IMCA stock car crown. The veteran beat out 2010 champ Troy Muench of Union by 20 marks en route to the crown. 59 different drivers mixed it up at Luxemburg in the class dubbed “too tough to tame.”

New Franken’s Brad Lautenbach was a force wherever he competed at in 2011, and his home track at Luxemburg Speedway was no exception. Lautenbach beat out arch rival Eric “Chummy” Arneson of Oconto Falls by just three points to collect the Tri County Heating IMCA northern sportmods track title. 57 different drivers in the division competed, in a class that continues to grow in leaps and bounds in northeast Wisconsin.

Luxemburg’s Marcus Moede outdueled Denmark’s Tom Brumlic by a mere five points to capture the Pepsi IMCA hobby stock title. That division’s title will be up for grabs as Moede will move up to the stock car class this year. 26 different IMCA hobby stock drivers competed at Luxemburg last season.

Oconto’s Ralph Liegeois Jr. beat out Oconto Falls Brian Johnson by 28 points to win the Tisler Salvage Sport Four title. 34 different drivers competed in the class.

De Pere’s Jay Matthias was awarded the “Mark Reinhard Memorial sportsmanship award” for his great sportsmanship and willingness to help his fellow drivers. Reinhard’s widow Jodi presented the award to Matthias.

Rookie of the years in the respective divisions were Johnny Whitman of De Pere (IMCA modifieds), Kewaunee’s Luke Lemmens (IMCA stock car), Luxemburg’s Chad Kaminski (IMCA northern sportmod), Green Bay, Suamico’s Cory Cotter (IMCA hobby stock) and Michael Verheyden (sport fours).

Currently the status of who will promote Luxemburg Speedway in 2012 remains up in the air. Within the next two months Kewaunee County leaders will go through the bidding process to select a new track operator. Check the track’s website at luxemburgspeedway.com for more information and updates. Luxemburg Speedway is located 15 minutes east of Green Bay off highway 54 at the Kewaunee County Fairgrounds.

(Kewaunee County third-mile, clay oval will see new promoters in 2012)

(Luxemburg, WI) January 13 – Lakeshore Motorsports Promotions, headed up by track manager Rick Goral of Denmark, has decided to call it quits as the promoters of Luxemburg Speedway’s weekly, Friday night program at the Kewaunee County Fairgrounds.

Goral informed county leaders of their decision earlier this week. Goral, along with Bobby Dorner and some silent partners, took over operation of the third-mile, clay oval in 2002 and have built it into one of the more successful dirt tracks in northeast Wisconsin. Goral served primarily as the “managing partner” while Dorner headed up the track preparation and maintenance of the track’s equipment.

There were many factors, according to Goral, that led to the decision to pull out. Chief among those decisions was an added expense of moving the pit area to the west end of the fairgrounds. A new concession stand would be built. “It would be quite an expensive proposition to bring that kitchen up to code,” said Goral.

In addition, there were several other reasons that led to Goral and Dorner’s choice. Just exactly when the new pit area actually gets finished in time for the racing season is a major concern. “That makes it very tough to acquire nightly sponsorship, and get a schedule done as well,” Goral pointed out. Also the frontstretch catch fence needs to be replaced and he was not able to get a definite answer on that yet.

LMP paid the highest track rental fee to host weekly racing. “It’s among the highest in the state, if not the Midwest and in this economy, makes it awful tough to pull a profit,” said Goral. “Overall the county has been pretty good to work with. There are just some areas we don’t see eye to eye on is all.”

What’s more, Goral found himself putting in more hours as the years wore on, with the weekly racing showing less of a profit margin year after year. “It’s really tough to be a race promoter and you’ve got a full time job besides,” said Goral. “I don’t regret one bit of it. I’ve met some great friends along the way.”

Goral plans on taking more vacations in the warmer southern states. He has not ruled out possibly serving in a “consultant” role so to speak, to assist a new promoting group. An advertisement will be put in the Kewaunee County paper which will be soliciting bids from potential new promoters. “I’m not getting any younger, and it’s a lot more work than people can imagine,” said Goral. “You’ve really got to pour your heart and soul into it to make it work.”

The 2011 Luxemburg Speedway awards banquet will be going on as planned Saturday, January 28 at Beverly Gardens in Denmark. See luxemburgspeedway.com for more information or call (920) 660 9095 for more information.

(Luxemburg, WI) Aug. 30 – Champions in four classes will be crowned Friday, September 2 at Luxemburg Speedway on Tri County Heating championship night.

In one division the championship has already been decided. Hometown ace Benji LaCrosse already has a whopping 50 point lead over James Lee Tebon of Algoma, thus clinching his fourth career Budweiser IMCA modified title. LaCrosse won titles in 2005-2007 and was the division’s rookie of the year in 2003.

In the Badgerland Concrete IMCA stock cars Pulaski’s Junior Karcz holds a 20 point lead over defending track champion Troy Muench of Union. On Saturday night Karcz captured the stock car crown at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek.

Three points separate New Franken’s Brad Lautenbach over Oconto Falls’ Eric “Chummy” Arneson in the Tri County Heating IMCA northern sportmod class. Last year’s track champion Troy Jerovetz of Green Bay sits 19 points back of Lautenbach. On Sunday night Lautenbach claimed that division’s track title at Seymour Speedway.

Perhaps the toughest battle of all weighs in with the Pepsi IMCA hobby stocks. Denmark’s Tom Brumlic is sandwiched between arch rivals and brothers Marcus and Derek Moede, both Casco natives. Marcus holds a five point lead over Brumlic, while Derek Moede sits eight points out of first place.

Oconto’s Ralph Liegeois Jr. holds a commanding 28 point lead over Oconto Falls’ Brian Johnson in the Tisler Salvage Sport 4′s. On Saturday Liegeois collected that division’s track title at 141 Speedway.

Racing gets underway at 7 p.m. For more information call (920) 660 8095. The track’s website is luxemburgspeedway.com and you can follow the track on Facebook. Luxemburg Speedway is located 15 minutes east of Green Bay off state highway 54 at the Kewaunee County Fairgrounds.

The event will follow the Wisconsin Dirt Late Model Association (WDLMA) rules but not be a sanctioned event. The late models will follow a draw/redraw format.

“It’s been awhile since we’ve had the WDLMA style late models here and we think the timing is ripe to bring them back for a special,” said track manager Rick Goral. “With Manitowoc not running them that night we should get a fairly solid field of cars.”

The late model feature will pay $1300 to win and $150 to start. Non qualifiers will receive $100. Late model drivers will pay a $30 pit pass while the general pit admission is $22. The draw cutoff is 6:30 p.m. with late model hot laps at 6:45 p.m. Adult tickets are $12, seniors are $10. Students 11-15 are $7. Kids 10 and under are free with a paid adult.

The pit gates open at 4:30 p.m., with the grandstand opening up at 5:45 p.m. The track’s regular divisions will also be in action, including the Budweiser IMCA modifieds, Badgerland Concrete IMCA stock cars, Tri County Heating IMCA northern sportmods, Pepsi IMCA hobby stocks and Tisler Salvage Sport fours.

On Friday night, August 19 Beverly Gardens hosts the Powder Puff races.
