(Luxemburg, WI) April 25 – For the second straight week, cold, wet weather have forced Luxemburg Speedway officials to cancel the planned season opener for Friday, April 29.

This is the second straight week the planned opener was forced to cancel. A planned practice session the week prior to that was also washed out, too.

“We tried bringing a sheepsfoot out on Monday, even before the rains came hard Tuesday morning,” said track manager Rick Goral. “It sunk right into the track. There’s no way we could even begin preparing a track to race when we can’t even get equipment to run on it. Some people think we’re not trying hard enough to race when nothing could be further from the truth.”

What’s hampered the effort even more is the new clay surface that has been added to the third-mile, clay oval. “It’s not just the rain but we need warmer temperatures, sun and wind to dry that all out,” said Goral. “We need at least four or five days consecutive days of drying weather, so we can open up the track and let it dry out.”

Track officials will give it a go again next Friday, May 6 at 7 p.m. IMCA modifieds, stock cars, northern sportmods, hobby stocks and sport fours will compete weekly.
