LaCrosse Lands Second Luxemburg IMCA Mod Feature Win!
By Joe Verdegan
August 2, 2007; Luxemburg, WI. -Defending track champion Benji LaCrosse of Luxemburg continued his late season surge, passing Brian Mullen for the lead on lap 15 and winning his second IMCA modified feature at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night.
A total of 112 cars were in attendance including 27 IMCA modifieds, 33 IMCA stock cars, 18 IMCA hobby stocks, 15 northern sportmods and 19 sport fours.
Polesitter Dave Zeitler paced the opening three laps of the 25 lap IMCA modified feature before a lap three caution flew for a Brian Joski spin. On the restart Seymour’s Brian Mullen blasted into the lead and immediately began building a sizeable cusion over the pack.
By lap 10 Benji LaCrosse, who started 11th, sliced his way through traffic to take second. LaCrosse closed in on Mullen by lap 13 and drove around Mullen for the lead on lap 15. LaCrosse skillfully worked through lapped cars and went on to win his second feature flag of the year. Mullen nipped Jared Siefert at the line for second. Sean Jerovetz placed fourth while Jason Czarapata charged through the field from 18th to finish fifth.
IMCA modified driver Jay Matthias drove Tyler Smith’s IMCA stock car to victory in that division’s time-shortened 15 lap feature. The event was plauged by six caution periods.
Green Bay’s Bryan Techmeier led the first seven laps through three caution periods which flew for various spinouts. On the lap seven restart Matthias ducked underneath Techmeier to take the lead. Jesse Colwell and Travis Van Straten tagged along second and third, respectively as the duo hooked up and began pulling away from the field.
A lap 13 yellow flew when Ben Kroll and Rod Snellenberger tangled, with Kroll receiving the black flag for rough driving. With two laps remaining Matthias fought off Jesse Colwell for the win. Travis Van Straten, Brian Bruechert and Von Eytchenson rounded out the top five finishers.
Tim Jorgenson of De Pere won his fifth, 15 lap IMCA northern sportmod feature. Hometown driver Dave De Grave captured the 18 lap IMCA hobby stock main while Suamico’s Jesse Heise won the sport four feature.
