Nick Anvelink Captures Luxemburg Late Model Special!

By Joe Verdegan

July 15, 2007; Luxemburg, WI. – Bonduel’s Nick Anvelink passed Shawano’s Tom Naeyaert for the lead on lap 24 and skillfully weaved through lapped cars to win the caution free, 40 lap Seubert Calf Ranches late model special at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night. A total of 91 cars were in the pits, including 18 late models, 30 IMCA modifieds, 24 stock cars and 19 northern sportmods.

Polesitter Russ Scheffler of Waukesha paced the opening 13 laps of the contest until Naeyeart whisked by to take the lead on lap 13. Anvelink, who started sixth, caught up to Naeyaert on lap 22 and passed him two laps later to take the lead.

Anvelink worked his way through lapped traffic the rest of the way to take the win. Naeyeart, who won here Friday night in a Fastrak late model event, took second, followed by Scheffler, Troy Springborn and Pete Parker. Hometown driver Benji LaCrosse swept action in the IMCA modified division, as the defending track, regional and national IMCA modified champion passed Shawano’s Dave Werbelow on lap fifteen to claim his first 25 lap IMCA modified feature of the year here. After an aborted start at the drop of the green, the contest went caution free the rest of the way.

Shawano’s Dave Werbelow outraced fellow front row starter Art Siefert to the lead at the drop of the green. While Werbelow maintained the lead Siefert kept his racer stuck to the bottom. By lap 13 Benji LaCrosse had stormed through the pack from 10th into second, as he worked the high line chasing Werbelow for the lead.

LaCrosse drove around Werbelow for the top spot on lap fifteen and went on to build a comfortable cushion to claim the win.

Pulaski’s Rod Snellenberger passed Luxemburg’s Pat Davister for the lead on lap 10 and went on to win his third 22 lap IMCA stock car feature of the season here. The victory went green-to-checkered without a caution. Davister settled for second place money, followed by Charlie Kroll, Jay Matthias and Jesse Colwell.

Kewaunee’s Eugene Gregorich passed Tim Jorgenson for the lead on the final lap to capture his fourth 18 lap IMCA northern sportmod feature of the season. Trailing at the checkers were Jorgenson, Eric Arneson, Travis Cain and Marcus Yarie.

There will be no racing on Friday, July 20 due to the Kewaunee County Fair. Weekly racing will resume Friday, July 27 on Dorsch Ford Kia night at the track. All five weekly divisions will be in action, beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday night with racing commencing at 6 p.m. Sunday. For more information call 920 863 8446. The track phone is 920 845 2300.
