May 16, 2008; Luxemburg, WI. — For the second time this season hometown driver Benji LaCrosse netted a clean
sweep of activities in the IMCA modified division at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night. LaCrosse passed Billy LeMieux of Sturgeon Bay for the lead on lap 14 to win the 25 lap IMCA modified feature.
A total of 158 cars attended the opening night races, including 37 IMCA modifieds, 43 stock cars, 32 northern sportmods, 21 hobby stocks and 25 sport fours.
LeMieux shot into the lead at the drop of the green from the pole position. LeMieux held the lead through three early yellows. On a lap four restart Seymour’s Mike Mullen slipped into the lead with LaCrosse hot on his heels. LeMieux repassed Mullen for the lead using the high line on lap seven. LaCrosse also went to the top and tried to keep LeMieux in his sights.
LaCrosse reeled in LeMieux on lap 14 and ducked underneath LeMieux for the lead. LaCrosse kept all challengers
at bay to collect his second feature flag here of the season. Brian Mullen emerged triumphant in a late race battle with his son Mike Mullen to take second. LeMieux settled for fourth while defending track champion Jared Siefert rounded out the top five finishers.
Kewaunee’s Brian Bruechert passed Mike Pierrard of Green Bay for the lead on lap 10 and hung on to win the 22 lap IMCA stock car feature. Greenleaf’s Jesse Colwell took second, after having to qualify into the feature by winning a semi feature. Colwell was followed by Pierrard, Jamie Cowell and Matt Junio.
Green Bay’s Troy Jerovetz passed Marcus Yarie for the lead on lap six and held on through a pair of cautions to win his second straight 20 lap IMCA Northern sportmod feature. Adam White applied pressure at the end but wound up second, followed by Tim Jorgensen, Travis Cain and Tracy Wassenberg.
Luxemburg’s Dave De Grave passed Scott Boulanger for the lead on lap seven and went on to win his third straight, 18 lap IMCA hobby stock feature.
The sport four feature was cancelled due to rain. The purse money and points were divided evenly by all the feature drivers.
Bushville’s Tim Czarnecki barrel rolled his IMCA modified several times in the frontstretch during a semi feature. Czarnecki emerged unhurt but the car sustained significant damage.
