May 9, 2008; Luxemburg, WI. — Hometown driver Dave Zeitler of Luxemburg survived several caution periods and a late race charge by defending track champion Jared Siefert of Green Bay to capture the time shortened, 12 lap IMCA modified feature at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night. Zeitler also won his heat, netting a sweep of the division for the night.
A weekly track record 163 cars were on hand, including 40 IMCA modifieds, 44 stock cars, 32 northern sportmods, 21 hobby stocks and 26 sport fours.
A pair of cautions in the first three laps got the IMCA modified feature off to a slow start. Polesitter Tim Czarnecki paced the lead on the restart with Zeitler pulling alongside of Czarnecki to challenge for the lead. Zeitler wrestled the lead away on lap five, only to have the lap wiped away when Jason Czarapata looped his mount in turn
two, drawing an amber.
A handful of cautions flew within the next few circuits. When racing resumed Zeitler took the lead with SIefert moving into second.
Siefert kept Zeitler in his sights. Time expired with just 10 laps in, setting up a two lap dash to the finish. Siefert settled for second at the pay window, followed by Tim Czarnecki Eric Van Iten and Brian Mullen.
Green Bay’s Troy Jerovetz passed Travis Cain for the lead on lap 15 and cruised to victory in the 18 lap IMCA northern sportmod main. Trailing at the checkers were Cain, Chad Guyette, Mark Christensen and Joe White. Jerovetz also won his heat, scoring a clean sweep. Greenleaf’s Jamie Colwell passed Kewaunee’s Brian Bruechert for the lead on lap 11 and
maintained the lead to win the 20 lap IMCA stock car feature. Bruechert, John Heinz, Greg Gretz and Jesse Colwell followed.
Luxemburg’s Dave De Grave won his second straight IMCA hobby stock feature while Ralph Legois won the sport 4 feature, his second of the year.
A pair of drivers escaped injuries when their mounts barrel rolled several times in their respective divisions. Luxemburg’s Tyler Dorn and New Franken’s Ben Kroll each rolled their mounts in the sport four and IMCA stock car classes, respectively. Not only were they uninjured, but both drove their cars into the pits without the assistance of a wrecker.
Racing resumes next Friday night beginning at 7 p.m.
