(Luxemburg, WI) May 22 – Kewaunee’s Shawn Kilgore became the first repeat feature winner of the early season at Luxemburg Speedway. Kilgore scampered past Eric Van Iten for the lead on lap 14 and never looked back, going on to win the caution free, 25 lap IMCA modified feature Friday night.
A total of 114 cars were on hand, including 26 IMCA modifieds, 32 stock cars, 25 northern sportmods, 18 hobby stocks, and 13 street stocks. Van Iten sprinted from his pole position into the early lead on the smooth, but slick third-mile, clay oval. Kilgore, who started ninth, moved to the outside and began picking off one car every two laps. By lap 12 Kilgore had pulled door-to-door with Van Iten, and executed the winning pass on lap 14. Algoma’s Todd Dart mounted a late race surge, passing two cars in the final two laps to take second away from Van Iten at the checkers. Van Iten settled for third, followed by RM Van Pay and James Tebon.
New Franken’s Troy Muench captured the 22 lap IMCA stock car feature. Green Bay’s Mike Pierrard paced the opening three laps of the IMCA stock car feature when a caution flew for a spin on lap three. When racing resumed Muench ducked underneath Pierrard to take the lead, with brothers Jamie and Jesse Colwell slipped into second and third, respectively. The brothers pressured Muench until lap ten when a caution flew on lap ten for a Dustin Loberger spin. On the restart Pierrard squeezed past Jesse Colwell to take third and began reeling in Jamie Colwell for second. With 15 laps in Tyler Smith looped his mount in turn four, setting up a five lap dash to the finish. Muench hung on for the win. Pierrard battled his way back into second, followed by Shawn Havel, Ben Kroll who fought his way into the feature by way of a semi feature victory, and Jesse Colwell.
Bonduel’s Greg Wichman lead from wire-to-wire, fending off Hortonville’s Travis Cain in the final laps to win his first, 20 lap IMCA northern sportmod feature. Trailing at the checkers were Van Straten, Eric Arneson, Johnny Whitman and Eugene Gregorich.
Casco’s Marcus Moede fended off several stiff challenges from Denmark’s Tom Brumlic to win his first, 20 lap IMCA hobby stock feature of the year. Brumlic settled for second at the pay window, followed by Chad Kaminski, Robby Waechter and Jared Van Lannen. Former IMCA hobby stock champion Jesse Kanas of Lomira returned to the track, leaving victorious by winning the 18 lap street stock feature.
