(Luxemburg, WI) July 3 – Two Rivers Kyle Kudick fended off a late race charge by De Pere’s Jay Matthias, leading every lap en route to victory in the caution free, 25 lap IMCA modified feature at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night.

Kudick also won his heat race, netting a sweep for the evening.

A total of 116 cars were on hand including 25 IMCA modifieds, along with 29 stock cars, 25 northern sportmods, 20 hobby stocks and 17 sport fours.

Kudick jumped into the lead from his pole position at the drop of the green. Kudick quickly pulled away to a five car length lead over the rest of the pack. Matthias, who was running second from the get go, slowly began reeling Kudick in, chopping his lead down to one car length by lap 11. Matthias continued to apply the pressure, with both drivers clinging to the bottom groove. Matthias poured the coals to his racer in the final three laps, glued to Kudick’s rear bumper, but came up short at the finish, taking second. Shawn Kilgore took third, followed by Brian Mullen and Benji LaCrosse.

Ellisville’s Bob Waechter scampered past Luxemburg’s Eric Malfroid on lap four and kept the lead through a pair of late cautions to win his first, 22 lap IMCA stock car feature of the season.

Waechter received heavy pressure in the waning laps from a trio of drivers, including Algoma’s Dave Bouche who finished second, Greenleaf’s Jesse Colwell and New Franken’s Ben Kroll. The trio finished second through fourth, respectively. Green Bay’s John Heinz took fifth after fighting his way into the field through a semi feature. The top two point drivers New Franken’s Troy Muench, and Greenleaf’s Jamie Colwell tangled in a lap 17 mishap while battling for fifth. Colwell battled back to salvage a 14th while Muench managed an 18th.

Suamico’s Chad Nelson sped past De Pere’s Doug Maurer for the lead with five laps remaining to win the 20 lap IMCA northern sportmod feature, his first of the year here. Oconto Falls Eric Arneson, the current points leader, was forced to race his way into the feature by winning the semi-feature. Arneson sliced his way through the field to post a second place finish. Oconto’s Travis Cain took third, followed by Travis Van Straten and Green Bay’s Josh Long.

Kewaunee’s Keith Kickbush, guest driving George Paul’s car, scored a clean sweep in the IMCA hobby stock division. The IMCA northern sportmod driver and former hobby stock track champion won his heat and the 18 lap IMCA hobby stock feature. Denmark’s Tom Brumlic applied the pressure in the waning laps but came up a fender short at the checkers, taking second. Scott Boulanger, driving Jason De Bouche’s car, took third, followed by Tyler Wilson and Chad Kaminski. Oneida’s Jason Cornelius captured the 15 lap sport four feature.

Next Friday July 10 first time sponsor Pro Label Inc. will sponsor the program. Kid’s Big Wheel races will take place. Racing starts at 7 p.m. For more information call 920 863 8446. The track phone number is 920 845 2300. The track’s website is www.luxemburgspeedway.com.
