(Luxemburg, WI) June 24 — Shiocton’s Chad Bartel passed Little Suamico’s Danny Deau for the lead on lap three and went on to collect his first ever caution free IMCA modified feature at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night. Bartel won his heat, earning a sweep for the evening.
Hometown driver Tyler Smith continued the streak of first time winners, as Smith won his first career feature flag in the IMCA stock car class, netting a clean sweep as well.
111 Cars turned up to compete, including 19 IMCA modifieds, 29 stock cars, 30 northern sportmods, 19 hobby stocks and 14 sport fours.
In the modified feature Bartel started alongside of Deau in the front row as the field took the green, with Deau getting the nod for the lead the on the first two circuits. Bartel took the lead on lap three and never looked back in the caution free event, coming up on lapped cars in the waning laps. Bartel hung on for his first career feature flag here. Oconto Falls Lance Arneson took second, followed by Sobieski’s Sean Jerovetz, Luxemburg’s Benji LaCrosse who charged from 13th to take fourth, and Denmark’s Tim Czarneski.
Smith snuck past leader Mike Coel of Green Bay on a restart with three laps to go and hung on for a popular win. Drama unfolded on the final lap when Coel and Pulaski’s Rod Snellenberger locked horns in turn two while battling for second. That handed the second place to Luxemburg’s Dave De Grave. Kewaunee’s Keith Kickbush took third, followed by Oconto’s Dustin Loberger and Union’s Troy Muench.
Green Bay’s Jason Kostichka took the lead at the drop of the green in the IMCA sportmods feature until lap three when De Pere’s Troy De Grave wrestled the lead away. When a caution flew on lap nine De Grave had built up a full straightaway lead. Another caution flew four laps later. When racing resumed De Grave picked up where he left off and collected his first feature flag of the season. Rookie Chad Kaminski of Luxemburg turned in his finest performance of the year finishing second. Abram’s Scott Boyea, Oconto Falls Eric Arneson and Kewaunee’s Brian Bruechert rounded out the top five finishers.
Luxemburg’s Marcus Moede passed Algoma’s David Schmidt for the lead on lap eight and cruised to his second IMCA hobby stock feature of the season. Algoma’s Travis Hackett finished second, followed by Marcus’ brother Derek Moede of Casco, Algoma’s David Schmidt and Denmark’s Tom Brumlic.
