(Luxemburg, WI) May 20– Luxemburg’s Benji LaCrosse drove around race leader Jared Siefert and Algoma’s Todd Dart on the final corner of the final lap to capture the 25 lap IMCA modified feature at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night.
133 Cars turned up to compete, including 28 IMCA modifieds, 38 stock cars, 35 northern sportmods, 18 hobby stocks and 14 sport fours.
LaCrosse started in row two and stayed within striking distance of early race leader Todd Dart. Green Bay’s Jared Siefert joined Dart and LaCrosse and the trio went nose to tail, slicing and dicing for the top spot for a bulk of the contest.
Siefert assumed the top spot with five laps remaining. On the final lap Siefert suffered mechanical woes with his car as sparks shot out from underneath. LaCrosse executed a three wide pass of the two to take the win. Dart took second, followed by Siefert. Seymour’s Brian Mullen nipped Oconto Fall’s Lance Arneson at the line to take fourth with Arneson taking fifth.
Kewaunee’s Greg Gretz dodged heavy pressure from Ocontos’ Dustin Loberger and Shawano’s Shawn Wagner in the waning laps to win the caution free, 20 lap IMCA stock car feature. Loberger took second in his best performance here. Wagner finished third, with Dave De Grave and opening night feature winner Junior Karcz rounding out the top five.
Little Suamico’s Andy Kleczka fought off Green Bay’s Troy Jerovetz and a fast closing Brad Lautenbach of New Franken to collect a hard fought, 20 lap IMCA northern sportmod feature win. Jerovetz, Lautenbach, Oconto Falls Eric Arneson and Kewaunee’s Brad Theys rounded out the top five.
Kaukauna’s Matt Drawenek passed Green Bay’s Lee Kielpikowski for the lead on lap seven and went on the win the caution free, 20 lap street stock feature. Greenville’s Danny Gracyalny took second, followed by Oconto’s Alan Schlueter, Sturgeon Bay’s Aaron Thornton and Hilbert’s Josh McDonald.
Luxemburg’s Marcus Moede drove most of the IMCA hobby stock feature with his hood flapping in the wind. Moede fought off a tenacious charge from Tom Brumlic of Denmark for the last five laps while Amherst’s Eugene Gregorich Jr. battled his way through the field from 16th to second by lap 17.
Moede led start to finish, and went on to win the 20 lap IMCA hobby stock feature which went green to checkered.
As the checkers were thrown, Gregorich pulled alongside of Moede in a photo finish, with Moede getting the nod by mere inches. Gregorich settled for second, for the second straight week as he lost to Marcus’ brother Derek Moede in the season opener. Brumlic took third followed by Luxemburg’s George Paul and Algoma’s Travis Hackett.
The third IMCA modified heat race was red flagged when Abram’s Brian Joski collided with another car, sending his mount into a series of barrel rolls in turn four, landing on his roof. Joski was OK but his car suffered heavy damage.
Racing resumes next Friday night, May 27 at 7 p.m. and will be sponsored by Van Drisse Racing Parts. For more information call (920) 660 8095, or check the track website at luxemburgspeedway.com.
