Luxemburg IMCA Mod Feature With Last Lap Pass!

Luxemburg, WI. - Little Suamico's Danny Deau passed race leader Scott
Mullen on the final corner of the final lap to win his first 25 lap IMCA modified feature
of the season at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night. Deau collected $850 for his efforts and
became the eighth different winner in as many weeks in the division..
A total of 113 cars took part in the program. The field included 37
IMCA modifieds, 33 IMCA stock cars, 21 street stocks, 12 bombers and 10 sport fours.
Polesitter Tom "Weinerdog" Baumgart took the early lead at the drop of the green
while Chris Derenne and Danny Deau settled into the second and third spots, respectively.
The trio ran nose-to-tail for the first six laps until Dave Fischer's car lost a tire,
drawing an amber. A Jared Siefert spin on the restarted triggered a chain reaction pileup.
All six drivers involved in the mishap stayed running.
When racing resumed Deau stormed past Baumgart for the lead. A lap seven yellow for debris
flew and on the restart Deau faced a challenge from Randy LeMieux on the outside line.
LeMieux motored past Deau for the lead on lap nine. LeMieux bolted from the field, pulling
a five car length lead by the halfway point. Scott Mullen slipped underneath Deau for
second on lap 14 and began chopping away at LeMieux's margin. Mullen caught up with the
Sturgeon Bay driver on lap 15 and the pair executed a thrilling, side-by-side scrap with
Mullen protecting the bottom groove and LeMieux committed to the high line.
Mullen slipped past LeMieux on lap twenty for the lead. A Jeremy Hodkiewicz spin on lap 20
set up a five lap dash to the finish. Eddie Muenster charged from fourth to second on the
restart but lost the runnerup spot to Deau on lap 22. Deau, running the high side, stayed
door-to-door with Mullen and on the final corner of the final lap mustered enough power to
whisk past Mullen to score the win. Mullen settled for second place money, followed by
Eddie Muenster, Chris Derenne and Jerry Muenster.
Luxemburg's Benji LaCrosse took advantage of leader Jeremy Christians' motor blowing on
the final lap as LaCrosse went on to win the 22 lap IMCA stock car feature. The contest
went green-to-checkered without a yellow. The win was LaCrosse's second of the season.
Brett Piontek outgunned Brian Baenen into the lead at the drop of the green. Kyle
Frederick marched from sixth into second by lap three and wrestled the lead away from
Piontek on lap five. Frederick began building a comfortable five car length cushion as
Christians and LaCrosse sliced their way into second and third from their 10th and 12th
starting spots, respectively. The pair hooked up with Frederick and the trio pulled away
from the field to settle the score. Lap 13 proved to not be so lucky for Frederick, as the
leader cut a tire and was through for the night.
Christians inherited the lead and had LaCrosse breathing down his neck right down to the
wire. On the final circuit the powerplant in Christians racer expired, handing the win
over the LaCrosse. Trailing at the checkers were Greg Gretz, Jason Czarapata, Craig Paque
and Jeff LaCrosse.
Hometown driver Fred Davister led from start-to-finish en route to winning his third 20
lap street stock feature.
Freddie "Andretti" Davister led from the drop of the green and immediately
pulled away from the field. Jerry Kroll stayed within striking distance for the first
seven laps and then Charlie Kroll trailed Davister only to have his racer stall on lap 11,
drawing the first caution of the race.
Racing resumed two laps later following another caution and Davister pulled away to
capture his third feature win of the season. Placing second through fifth were Jerry
Kroll, Mike Coel, Jeff Treml and Laurel Ettien.
Sturgeon Bay's Wayne Moore beat out the other 11 foes and won the 14 lap bomber feature
while Steve Schaumburg bested the other nine competitors to win the 12 lap sport four
feature.
A special six lap IMCA stock car dash was run in memory of Tom Van Dreel, a former driver
from De Pere who passed away last week at the age of 59. The race was won by Benji
LaCrosse.
Next Friday night Coca Cola will sponsor big wheel races for the kids. The sport trucks
will be in action, along with the IMCA modifieds, IMCA stock cars and street stocks.
Racing gets underway at 7 p.m.
