Collects Second Luxemburg IMCA Mod Main;
Champs Crowned in Five Classes!

Luxemburg, WI. - Algoma's Todd "Felix" Dart had his hands
full with hotshoes Jay Schraufnagel and brothers Brian and Scott Mullen in the closing
laps but was able to fend off the trio to claim his second 25 lap IMCA modified feature of
the season at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night.
It was the final points night for the five divisions that count
points in the their respective classes. By virtue of his sixth place finish in the main
Green Bay's Eddie Muenster collected his third IMCA modified track championship. In the
IMCA stock car class Green Bay's John Heinz nailed down his first ever track championship.
Mike Coel of Green Bay claimed his first street stock title while other first time track
champions included Carlsville's Corey Haen in the bomber division and Luxemburg's Dave
Davister in the sport truck class.
Last week's winner Mike Klenz wrestled away the lead from Dave Fischer on the second
circuit of the IMCA modified main when Dart knifed his way through the pack from ninth
into third on lap five. One lap later the caution flew when the cars of Scooter Boyea,
Fischer and Jeremy Hodkiewicz tangled in turn one.
When racing resumed Schraufnagel and Brian Mullen stepped to the plate and
began putting the heat on Dart, working the high line on the expertly-groomed, third mile
clay oval. After protecting the bottom for three laps Dart slid up to the top line on lap
nine.
Schraufnagel countered Dart's manuever by seizing control of the lower groove, even
swapping the lead with the Algoma driver on two separate occasions. Mullen stormed past
Schraufnagel on the outside to take second on lap 14. The event's second yellow flew when
Dan Ratajzcak and Chris Derenne locked horns on lap 15.
On the restart Schraufnagel blew past Mullen for second using the high
line as Dart protected the bottom to collect his second feature flag of the season at
Luxemburg. Schraufnagel claimed second at the pay window while Scott Mullen mounted a late
race surge to nip brother Brian at the line for third. Jared Siefert rounded out the top
five finishers.
By virtue of his sixth place finish Muenster claimed the track title. It was Muenster's
third, having won championships in 1989 and 1995.
Jeff LaCrosse took an early lead in the 22 lap IMCA stock car main but the lead was short
lived when Jeff's brother Benji LaCrosse stalled his mount on lap two, drawing a yellow.
Luxemburg's Larry Ingebretsen grabbed the lead on the restart and built a healthy five car
length lead over the pack. Ingebretsen ran into some bad luck on lap 14 when the
driveshaft in racer dropped from his car, wiping out his lead and ending his night.
Hortonville's Travis Van Straten inherited the lead on the restart but pulled off with
mechanical problems on lap 16. Gillett's Kyle Frederick then took the lead. Frederick kept
all challengers at bay and went on to win his first feature flag of the season at
Luxemburg. Trailing Frederick at the checkers were Tim Van De Hei, who qualified for the
feature by placing second in the last chance race, Jamie Colwell, Jason Czarapata and Dave
Bouche.
By finishing seventh in the main event Heinz went on the capture the division his crown,
the first of his career.
Sturgeon Bay's Tom Daubner grabbed the lead on lap seven and survived a pair of caution
periods to win his first 20 lap street stock feature of the season. Runnerup finisher Mike
Coel easily clinched the division crown. Trailing the pair at the checkers were Ed
Anschutz, Laurel Ettien and Keith Kickbush.
Carlsville's Corey Haen captured the 15 lap bomber feature and the division's title
followed by Maynard Hegnet, Billy Hays, Brandon Peterson and Evan Madden. In the sport
truck division Jerry Scray Jr. won his second straight 15 lap feature. Luxemburg's
Davister broke Kevin Strebel's stranglehold of three straight division crowns by winning
the division's points title.
Next Friday night, September 6th will be the final race of the 2002 season. Miller Lite
will sponsor the $500-to-win street stock shootout. Several non-regular drivers from
neighboring area tracks are expected to be on hand. Joining the street stocks will be
modifieds, stock cars, bombers, sport trucks and sport fours. Racing gets underway at 7
p.m.
