Storms Through Field
to Win Second Luxemburg Mod Main!

Luxemburg, WI. - After qualifying into the feature by winning a last
chance race Beaver Dam's Jay Schraufnagel passed 17 cars en route to winning his second 25
lap IMCA modified feature before the largest crowd of the season at Luxemburg Speedway
Friday night.
A total of 102 cars took part in the program. The field included 36 IMCA
modifieds, 32 IMCA stock cars, 17 street stocks, 10 sport trucks and seven sport fours.
The IMCA modified feature saw three different drivers swap the lead in the first three
laps, with polesitter Rick LeMieux, Tom Baumgart and Dale Boerschinger all sharing the top
spot. On lap three the caution flew when Dave Zeitler's racer stalled in turn two.
Boerschinger held the lead when racing resumed, with Art Siefert and Robert Waechter
running second and third, respectively. The lead trio pulled away from the field with
Boerschinger keeping a safe two to three car length lead over Siefert. Lap 13 proved to be
unlucky when Baumgart and Randy Back locked horns on the frontstretch, drawing a yellow.
By the midway point Schraufnagel, who had started 18th on the grid, had marched his way up
to sixth. On the restart Waechter drove around Siefert to take second and flew gby
Boerschinger on the outside to grab the lead on lap seventeen. Waechter's lead was short
lived when a yellow flew two laps later when Todd Dart and Sean Jerovetz got together in
turn two on lap 19. With six laps remaining Schraunagel put his racer in the high groove
and with a daring, three wide pass propelled himself into the lead. The Beaver Dam veteran
hung on to win the contest. Waechter posted his best finish of the year with a second.
Mike Klenz mounted a late race surge to take third, followed by Boerschinger and Siefert.
Kewaunee's Brian Bruechert survived heavy pressure from Benji LaCrosse and Jeremy
Christians to win the 22 lap IMCA stock car feature, his first win of the season.
Shannon Volkman and Tony Bouche swapped the lead during the first two circuits when
Bruechert, who started fourth, slipped into the lead on lap three. By lap five Christians
broke through the pack and began to chase down the second place car of Volkman. The
Horicon driver caught Volkman and passed him on lap eight, with a yellow thrown on lap
nine when Brandon Czarapata and John Heinz crashed on the fronstretch. Czarapata was black
flagged.
On the restart LaCrosse charged into third and closed in on Christians. The lead trio
pulled away from the pack to settle the score in the final laps, with Bruechert and
Christians opting for the low line with LaCrosse running up high. Bruechert kept his cool
and went on to claim victory. Placing second through fifth were LaCrosse, Christians,
Craig Paque and Jeremy Jacobs, who sliced his way through the field from his 13th starting
spot.
Green Bay's Mike Coel held the lead on a late race restart and went on to win his second
20 lap street stock feature of the season.
Davister inherited the lead on the opening lap when his son, polesitter Dan Davister, slid
off the track in turn three. Fred Davister went into the lead and began building a big
lead early. Darci Czarapata hung onto second spot, fending off points leader Mike Coel,
who tried the outside line but to not avail. Charlie Kroll, driving his cousin Jerry's
car, charged from the back of the pack into third on lap seven, when Laurel Ettien blasted
the frontstretch wall on lap 12, drawing a red. When racing resumed Charlie Kroll shot
into the lead with Mike Coel following through for second. Coel raced door-to-door for the
lead in the final laps, with Coel running high and Kroll down low.
The caution flew with just two laps left when Jeff Treml spun in turn four, setting up a
two lap dash to the checkers. Coel protected the bottom line en route to his second
feature flag of the season. Trailing Coel at the checkers were Fred Davister, Charlie
Kroll, Czarapata and David Baenen.
Dave Davister kept defending track champion Kevin Strebel at bay to win his third 10 lap
sport truck feature. And Tom Schmidt of Seymour bested the other six competitors in the
debut of the sport four division to win the 12 lap feature.
Next Friday night the much anticipated "Battle of The Burg" presented by Woody's
Signs and Engine Rebuilding Services for late models will take place. A 50 lap feature
paying $1,500-to-win is on tap. IMCA modifieds and IMCA stock cars will also compete in a
regular points night. Spectator gates open at 5:45 p.m. with the first green flag flying
