Woody's Signs/Engine Rebuilding Services to Sponsor
June 7 Late Model "Battle of the Berg" Special!

By Joe Verdegan

May 30, 2002; Luxemburg, WI. - A pair of Sturgeon Bay businesses have stepped to the plate and will serve as title sponsors for the first appearance in ten years of late models at Luxemburg Speedway in the "Battle of The 'Burg" Friday night, June 7.

Woody's Signs and Engine Rebuilding Services have signed on to support the big event, which will be highlighted by a 50 lap late model feature in the third mile, clay oval's biggest paying race in more than twenty years. The race winner will take home a $1,500 top prize, a sizeable chunk of the near track record $16,000 drivers payout in the three classes. Joining the late models will be the track's top two weekly classes the IMCA modifieds and IMCA stock cars.

"Even though we're jumping on board at the last minute we're thrilled to be involved with this late model special at Luxemburg," said Woody's Signs owner Bryan "Woody" Wodack. Woody's Signs sponsors a pair of late models owned by Little Chute's Danny Gracyalny, who will compete in the big race along with nine time Hales Corners Speedway champion Russ Scheffler. "Some of the best dirt late model drivers in the area will be involved in this race so I'm glad to be a part of it."

Woody's Signs letters more than 50 area race cars in five different divisions. In addition to race cars Woody's Signs also letters trucks and boats and creates banners as well. They also produce t-shirts for many area race teams and will have a special t-shirt with the "Battle of the 'Burg" theme for sale on June 7. For more information check out www.woodyssigns.com.

Engine Rebuilding Services is owned and operated by George Schmelzer and IMCA modified driver Buck Schmelzer. They build motors for several area IMCA modified, IMCA stock car and bomber teams.
