August 2, 2002; Luxemburg, WI. - With no racing at the Luxemburg Speedway Friday, August 2 because of the Kewaunee County Fair, teams in five point-counting divisions are gearing up for the final four nights of points racing at the third-mile, clay oval. Racing will resume at the track Friday night, August 9 and when it does Green Bay's Eddie Muenster will have a 23 point advantage over Seymour's Scott Mullen in the IMCA modified division. Seymour's Brian Mullen, winner of four straight features, is third despite missing two nights of racing with 350 points. A total of 70 drivers have collected points in the division thus far in 2002. "All it would take is one night of us not making the feature and it really tightens things up," said Muenster. A total of 53 different IMCA stock car drivers have collected points this year. Green Bay's John Heinz, in search of his first ever track title leads the way in that division with 409 points, just four points ahead of runnerup and former champion Tim Van De Hei of Green Bay. Pulaski's Jason Czarapata sits third with 398 points with defending track champion Benji LaCrosse 14 points out of the lead with 395 points. Another driver in search of his first track championship also hails from Green Bay. Mike Coel has a sizeable 28 point margin over New Franken's David Baenen in the street stock division. Former champion Fred Davister is third with 336 points. Despite car counts hovering in the high teens in recent weeks a total of 45 different street stock drivers have collected points this year. 17 different sport truck drivers have gathered points this year, with three-time champion Kevin "The Hammer" Strebel of Green Bay holding a slim three point edge over Luxemburg's Dave Davister. Green Bay's Ed Danoff sits third with 223 points. In the bomber class, a division that will evolve into the IMCA hobby stock at Luxemburg in 2003, Carlsville's Corey Haen sits atop fellow bomber veteran Wayne Moore of Sturgeon Bay, the points margin being 155-149. Algoma's Evan Madden and Casco's Derek Moede sit tied in third with 143 points a piece. On August 9 WLUK Fox 11 and Green Bay's Oldies station WOGB 103.1 FM will present the first ever Luxemburg Legends night. Fox 11's "Fox Fun In The Cities" television program will be broadcast live from the track and WOGB will also host a live radio broadcast from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. with racing in the IMCA modified, IMCA stock car, street stock and bombers divisions getting underway at 7 p.m. For more information consult the track website at www.luxemburgspeedway.com.
