December 20, 2002;
Luxemburg, WI. - Promoters of Luxemburg Speedway have released the track's
most ambitious schedule in recent history.
A total of 24 motorsports events are slated to take place at the track in 2003, located at
the Kewaunee County Fairgrounds. In addition to it's stout weekly Friday night program
featuring IMCA modifieds, IMCA stock cars, IMCA hobby stocks and four cylinder sport
fours, the 2003 slate includes the return of the Bumper To Bumper IRA Outlaw 410 sprint
car series to the track's third-mile, clay oval on Saturday night, June 14. It will mark
the series first appearance at the track since the mid-1990's.
"IRA is the premier 410 sprint car series in the Midwest and we're welcoming series
president Steve Sinclair and his group back to Luxemburg with open arms," said track
manager Rick Goral. "These 410 sprinters are fast and IRA's staff and drivers put on
a top notch, professional show."
In addition three late model specials will be held on Friday nights May 2 and June 6 along
with a Sunday night special on July 13. "The late model show was a big hit and with
two more chances to see them that's even better for the fans," said Goral. "The
two Friday nights we're running late models Antigo is off and the Sunday night Seymour is
off so we expect a full field of cars for those shows."
The backbone of the track, the IMCA modifieds and stock cars, will have their night to
shine on Independence Day, July 4. The mods will scrap for a $2,000 top prize while the
stock car winner will take home a cool $1,500. A huge fireworks display is also on tap.
The mod feature will go 40 laps while the stock car feature will be 30 laps. The event is
expected to draw the top modified and stock car competitors throughout Wisconsin.
Also on the schedule will be the return of the Eastern Wisconsin Stock Car winged
supermodifieds Friday night, Aug. 15. Plus, a special five race series for street stocks
will be held, with a champion crowned on Aug. 22. "We'll have a point fund of sorts
for the street stock drivers with the top twelve in this points series guaranteed starting
spots heading into the main event on Aug. 22," said Goral. The ever popular Luxemburg
Legends night will be held in conjunction with the Vintage Modified Stock Car Club on
Friday night, Aug. 8.
Other promotions such as big wheel night, a kid's coin drop, a powder puff race and other
events are still in the planning stages. "We're still talking to our sponsors and
it's a little early to get those things nailed down," said Goral. A number of off
season facilities improvements have been made already. Among them is the addition of a new
clay surface. The pit area has been expanded. The track will also have additional lighting
and pit speakers once the season begins.
The first event of the season will be a car show and open practice on Saturday, April 19.
The car show will take place from 10 a.m. til noon with trophies awarded in the track's
respective divisions. The practice session will last from noon to five p.m. "The
practice is open to any class and we've already had inquiries from several late model
teams who'll be there to shake their cars down," said Goral. A nominal pit fee will
be charged at the gate while spectator admission will be free for the practice.
Tickets for the January 25, 2002 awards banquet at The Rendezvous Pleasure Palace can be
obtained by calling Goral at 920 863 8446. For more information check the track's website
