March 30, 2002; Luxemburg, WI. - Former racers spanning four decades will grace the Luxemburg Speedway on Friday night August 9 as the track will host it's first ever Legends night at the Kewaunee County Fairgrounds. Included in the program will be a display of several restored coupes and winged modifieds, some of which competed at the third-mile, clay oval in the past. A special "meet and greet" session involving racers from the past will take place behind the grandstand beginning at 4 p.m. "We want to make this a special night for everyone involved," said track manager Rick Goral. "There were so many drivers who raced here weekly over the years. It was an interesting mix of locals and some hotshoes from Michigan's upper peninsula and down near Milwaukee who made some real memories here. We'll track down as many of them as possible." A special old timers race will also be held at the end of the regular racing program. The Vintage Modified Stock Car Club, an organization based out of Milwaukee, will also have a display on hand. "This Friday night works out great for members of our organization," said Club President John Surges. "In fact, some of our members restored mods raced at Luxemburg back in the 1970's and 1980's. We can't wait to bring those cars on the track and turn them loose for a few laps. We're looking forward to a real fun night." Announcements of which drivers will take part in the Legends night as well as which restored racers will be on display will be made throughout the summer. If any former drivers are interested in taking part of the old timers event or if you have a restored racer you would like to show off contact Joe Verdegan at 920 490 0120.
