Winged Warriors Set to Invade Luxemburg Speedway Twice in 2002!
By Joe Verdegan

April 4, 2002; Luxemburg, WI. -  For the first time in more than five years fans at the new Luxemburg Speedway will be treated to a pair of winged racing programs in 2002.

The Midwest SprintCar Association (MSA) 360 sprinters will make their first ever appearance at Luxemburg's semi-banked, third-mile clay oval on Friday night, July 12 while the Eastern Wisconsin Stock Car (EWSC) supermodifieds will make their return to Luxemburg for an EWSC points night on Friday, August 16. Both nights some of the track's weekly classes will be joining the traveling series.

The MSA 360 sprint cars are a traveling series that hosts shows at 10 other tracks in Wisconsin, including competing weekly at The Raceway at Powercom Park in Beaver Dam. The EWSC supermods have competed for four decades every Saturday night at Sheboygan County Fair Park in Plymouth.

"Bringing in different divisions in here once in awhile was one of my priorities when I took this thing over," said track manager Rick Goral. "The MSA 360 group brings with it a strong group of traveling racers in an up-and-coming organization. The eastern mods will be kind of nostalgic as these kind of cars ran here weekly in the '70's and '80's. Plus with it being sanctioned points shows for each organization a full field of cars should be on hand. I know I can't wait."

The MSA 360's feature winged sprint cars quite similiar to the Interstate Racing Association (IRA) or the World of Outlaws (WoO). "The only difference really is the motor," explained club president Al Schlaefer.

We'll start 22 cars in our 25 lap main with a 12 car invert. It usually means a lot of passing. Our fans love it. We expect to have around 35, maybe even 40 cars at Luxemburg. Our guys love running new tracks and they're really looking forward to the trip to Luxemburg."

Anywhere between 25 to 30 supermodifieds are expected for the August 16 program. "Our supermods don't run the following night at Plymouth because of another series running that Saturday," said EWSC general manager Sara Brion. "The track's are similiar in size and our drivers are very much looking forward to the trip up to Luxemburg."

The supermodifieds are fuel-injected racers that burn methanol. Many run big block engines, which throw out a real "throaty" sound when they smash the gas. The EWSC supermodified program will be highlighted by a 30 lap feature.

The 2002 season will officially kick off with the WAPL 105.7 FM Rockin' Apple Lid-Lifter Friday night, April 26 at 7 p.m. IMCA modifieds, IMCA stock cars and street stocks will compete weekly. Sport trucks, bombers and the track's newest four cylinder class the sport fours will rotate every third week.
