McBride Soars
to Luxemburg WISSOTA Late Model Win!

Luxemburg, WI. - Shawano veteran MJ Mcbride survived pressure from Pete
Parker and Tom Nayaert to win the Woody's Signs 40 lap WISSOTA late model feature at
Luxemburg Speedway Friday night. Mcbride led all 40 laps en route to victory.
116 cars took part in the program. The field included 44 IMCA stock
cars, 42 IMCA modifieds, 16 WISSOTA late models and 14 IMCA hobby stocks.
It took three attempts to get the late model main underway. Polesitter Randy Markwardt
pitted under one of the caution periods. That moved Mcbride up to the pole position,
alongside arch rival Parker in the front row. Mcbride assumed the lead at the drop of the
green. The Shawano Speedster immediately went to work building a five car length lead over
Parker, who battled with Naeyaert for the runnerup spot.
By lap 10 Mcbride began threading his way through lapped traffic. Parker kept Mcbride in
his cross hairs while weaving himself through slower traffic. By lap 15 Parker was able to
whittle Mcbride's lead down to three car lengths. Both veteran drivers hugged the bottom
groove of the dry slick, third mile clay oval. Parker clipped a tire in turn four on lap
16, drawing a caution. On the restart Naeyaert stepped up to challenge Mcbride for the
lead. Mcbride quickly pulled away though and began sifting through additional lapped
traffic by lap 25. Naeyaert held the lead briefly while Mcbride had trouble getting past a
lapped car. But Mcbride recovered to regain the top spot. Mcbride had clear sailing the
final ten laps and cruised to the $1,200 victory. Naeyaert settled for second at the pay
window, followed by Tim Buhler, Randy Markwardt and Mark Mitchell rounding out the top
five.
Seymour's Brian Mullen scooted past Jeremy Hodkiewicz on a lap four restart and went on to
collect the 25 lap IMCA modified feature.
Hodkiewicz led the first four circuits through a pair of yellow flag periods. Mullen, who
stormed through the field from 11th to third in four laps, muscled his way inside
Hodkiewicz to take the lead on the lap four restart. One circuit later Hodkiewicz, Mike
Klenz and Todd Dart tangled, drawing the third amber of the race. Under the green Mullen
had a mirror full of Jerry Wenzel. The duo pulled away from the pack, with Mullen shedding
Wenzel on lap 10. Mike Mashl caught up with Wenzel on lap 11 and passed the Two Rivers
veteran at the halfway point.
Mashl followed Mullen's tire tracks the rest of the way but was unable to reel Mullen in.
Mashl took second at the pay window, followed by Jeremy Jacobs, who sliced his way through
the field from his 16th starting spot to take third, Wenzel and Scott Mullen.
Kewaunee's Shawn Kilgore passed Joe Lebotte on a lap eight restart to capture the 22 lap
IMCA stock car feature.
Shawn Wagner wrestled the lead away from Tony Bouche in the early laps of the contest.
Wagner began building a lead, which was wiped out when caution flew on lap three for a
Greg Gretz spin. While under yellow Wagner pitted, handing the lead to Lebotte on the
restart. Lebotte fought off Kilgore and Jeff Vlies for three more circuits until a yellow
for a Junior Karcz spin flew. When racing resumed after an aborted restart Kilgore slipped
past Lebotte for the lead. The Kewaunee youngster began building up a sizeable cushion
over the rest of the field. Kilgore held on the for the win. Trailing at the checkers were
Brandon Czarapata, Lebotte, Tim Van De Hei and Jeff Vlies.
Algoma's Eddie "The Eagle" Anschutz led wire-to-wire, holding off a fierce
challenge from Keith Kickbush to claim the 15 lap IMCA hobby stock feature. The contest
went caution free. The win was the first career feature victory for Anschutz, a former
street stock driver. Trailing Anschutz at the checkers were Kickbush, Joe Hegnet, Kevin
Laughlin and Don Aregoni.
Next Friday night May 9 the races will be sponsored by WNCY 100.3 FM. Morning personality
"The Bear" will be broadcasting live from the track from 5 to 7 p.m. Racing
