Luxemburg, WI. -- Officials from Luxemburg Speedway have announced
the season opener for the 2004 season at the third-mile, clay oval will be Friday night,
April 30.
Once again, IMCA modifieds, IMCA stock cars, IMCA hobby stocks and four cylinder sport
fours will compete every Friday night through Labor Day weekend. In addition, The first
ever two day race event will be held as the first ever Luxemburg "Fall
Challenge" will be held on Friday and Saturday nights September 24 and 25. The two
day festival will showcase modifieds, stock cars, hobby stocks (IMCA-style hobbies, 141
Speedway hobbies and Chilton Challengers), street stocks and sport fours. Additional
divisions may be announced in the future.
"We wanted to do this during the weekend after (IMCA Supernationals) in Boone, Iowa
but the (Kewaunee County) Fairgrounds is hosting Heritage Days that weekend," said
track manager Rick Goral. "Our format will differ a bit from other two day shows,
too. Both nights will feature heats, consis and A mains. We'll announce more details at a
later date."
It was also announced that the WISSOTA late models will make three appearances at
Luxemburg Speedway in 2004 and the five race street stock series will return to Luxemburg
next year as well. Dates will be announced on these two items in the near future.
Kewaunee County leaders have given the go ahead to a new lighting project at the track,
which will mean new illumination on not only the track but the pit area as well.
Installation of new, 90' poles will begin in mid-October and the entire project will be
completed in time for the season opener.
In addition, the fronstretch wall will be raised and the ditch that currently exists
coming out of turn four will finally be eliminated. Grass has been planted in the pit area
and work has been ongoing to add 25 new pit stalls and new pit bleachers off of the
backstretch.
