April 19, 2003;
Luxemburg, WI. - A sudden downpour just as race cars were about to
take to the race track forced the cancellation of the open practice session at Luxemburg
Speedway Saturday afternoon.
Despite battling wet weather all week long, track crews had the third-mile, clay oval in
tip-top shape prior to the rain showers. Despite the cancellation of the practice a car
show and inspection brought out a total of 55 racers who showed up to get their cars
inspected prior to opening night.
The field included 21 IMCA stock cars, 19 IMCA modifieds, five IMCA hobby stocks, five
four-cylinder sport fours, three WISSOTA late models and one street stock. Drivers who won
best appearing cars in their respective divisions were Randy LeMieux Jr. of Sturgeon Bay
in the IMCA modifieds, PePe Vlies of Brussels in the IMCA stock cars, "Joe Bear"
Hegnet of Sturgeon Bay in the IMCA hobby stocks and Marty Van De Hei of Seymour in the
sport four division.
The season opener is slated for Friday night, April 25 at 7 p.m. IMCA mods, stock cars,
hobby stocks and sport fours will be on the card. For more information call track manager
Rick Goral at 920 863 8446.
