WISSOTA Late Models Roar Into Luxemburg Speedway May 2nd!
By Joe Verdegan

April 23, 2003; Luxemburg, WI. -Unlike last year, race fans at Luxemburg Speedway won't have to wait until June to see the regionally popular WISSOTA late models on the expertly-groomed third-mile, clay oval.

Woody's Signs of Sturgeon Bay is sponsoring the first of four WISSOTA late model shows on Friday night, May 2. Because the WISSOTA late models do not compete on a weekly basis at Luxemburg it's a real treat for fans when the likes of MJ Mcbride, Pete Parker, Gordie Seegert, Tom Naeyaert and Troy Springborn roll into town. "We had a blast there last year," said Shawano's Springborn, the 2002 WISSOTA state champion. "I'm glad they added three more shows. It just seems like the racing on a third-mile is always more competitive than it is on the bigger tracks."

While the shows boast a modest payoff of $1,200-to-win, the payout in the middle is well above what the weekly track's in the area pay. That's what lures the drivers. "The payout on down the line is real decent," said Ron Berna from nearby Green Bay. "Anytime you can for more money closer to home it's a good thing. And since we won't be chasing track points anywhere this year, we're making the four Luxemburg shows part of our schedule."

Unlike last season all four shows will utilize full WISSOTA sanctioning, allowing drivers to accumulate national points. The draw/redraw format will be used. The feature will be 50 laps. "I'm hoping we get enough cars to run a consolation race this year," said track manager Rick Goral. "Last year we had 21 cars. I'm optimistic we can pick up a few more this season."

In addition to the WISSOTA late models IMCA modifieds, IMCA stock cars, IMCA hobby stocks and sport fours will be in action. The WISSOTA late model feature will go 50 laps. Pit passes will be $18.00. Adult tickets will be $10.00. Student admission is six dollars. Ages 6-12 $ 3 and five and under free with an adult.
