Luxemburg Speedway's 2004 Mod Crown Up For Grabs!
By Joe Verdegan

April 15, 2004; Luxemburg, WI. - Even though he plans on missing a few nights to chase big money specials across the country, one cannot count Seymour's Brian Mullen out entirely when it comes to defending his 2003 IMCA modified title at Luxemburg Speedway.

Still, Mullen's aspirations to hit the road more frequently this summer have made his competitors breathe a little easier as they step to the plate to try and capture the division title at the third-mile, clay oval. With 17 of the top twenty points finishers from a year ago returning to do battle there are those betting there will be a new face at the awards banquet next winter when the champion's hardware is hauled out.

Last year's runnerup Scott Mullen of Seymour should again be one of the key players should he choose to race weekly in 2004. Third place finisher RM Van Pay of Green Bay has won a handful of titles at Luxemburg and perhaps has more laps around the track in a modified than any other driver locally. In addition last year's Thunder Hill Raceway champion Todd "Felix" Dart will be a threat, winning a pair of features last season.

Other drivers who are expected to be frontrunner this year are Suamico's Sean Jerovetz, Sturgeon Bay's Randy LeMieux, hometown favorite and last year's rookie-of-the-year Benji LaCrosse, Frog Station's Dan Ratajczak, Kewaunee's Jeremy Jacobs, Ellisville's Robert Waechter, Mike Coel of Baileys Harbor, Luxemburg driver's Jay Matthias and Chris Derenne, Green Bay driver's Jared Siefert, Eric Van Iten and Randy Back, Sobieski's Mike Klenz and Pulaski's Chad Wilcox.

"We should be real strong in the modified car count once again this year," said track manager Rick Goral. This season Goral will be adding cars to each feature race for those classes in which the car count exceeds 40. "If the car count is between 40-44 we'll start 22 instead of 20. If it's 45 and up we'll start 24. It gives a few guys an extra chance of getting into the main when the car count is really high."

Luxemburg Speedway's season opener is Friday night, April 30 at 7 p.m. IMCA modifieds, IMCA stock cars,IMCA hobby stocks and sport fours will compete weekly at the third-mile, clay oval.
