Late Models Return to Luxemburg for "Battle of the 'Berg III"!
By Joe Verdegan

May 19, 2004; Luxemburg, WI. - Officials at Luxemburg Speedway are proud to announce that the Wisconsin Dirt Late Model Association (WDLMA) will play host to the third annual 40 lap "Battle of the 'Burg" on Friday, June 11 sponsored by Seubert Calf Ranches of Dorchester, WI.

The race will feature a mix of eastern Wisconsin's local favorites along with a strong contingent of Milwaukee-area racers, many of whom may be making their first ever appearance at the semi-banked, third-mile clay oval. "We decided to make a slight change in our rules to bring in some different faces," said track manager Rick Goral. "Our payoff is the same as last season. The cars are basically the same with the exception of the rear tires. We're looking forward to a great turnout of cars and the fans love when the late models show up to race. It's usually one of our biggest nights all summer long."

The series debuted on Tuesday, May 18 in Oshkosh with 31 cars in attendance. "The field was nearly split down the middle with half of the field Milwaukee-area cars and the other half WISSOTA cars from the north," said series president Bryan Konopka. "The guys that ran Hales are really looking forward to Luxemburg because it's a third-mile very similiar in size to what Hales was. Plus with a series show at Manitowoc the following night most of our travelers will be staying in hotels up that way and hit both shows."

Leading the list of entries for the event is Cross Plains Tim Lemirande. The Oconto Falls native nabbed the inaugural series event. "I raced Luxemburg in a street stock, an IMCA stock car and an IMCA modified," said Lemirande, a rookie in the late model class. "We've always run well there and the Battle of The 'Burg is shaping up to be a lot of fun."

Along with the WDLMA racers will be the regular weekly program of IMCA modifieds, IMCA stock cars  and IMCA hobby stocks. The pits open at 4 p.m. while the grandstand opens at 5:45 p.m. Racing gets underway at 7 p.m. For more information call 920 863 8446. For information on the WDLMA series  call 414 839 4945.
