Scores Last Lap EWSC Supermod Win at Luxemburg!
By Joe Verdegan |
August 12, 2005;
Luxemburg, WI. - Troy Center's Pete Ostrowski passed Billy Hafeman of
Campbellsport on the final lap to win the 30 lap EWSC supermodified special at Luxemburg
Speedway Friday night. Ostrowski won the feature the last time the division appeared at
the track two seasons ago.
A total of 36 IMCA modifieds were on hand, along with 35 IMCA stock
cars, 14 EWSC supermodifieds, 14 IMCA hobby stocks, 17 sport fours and four Lady 4's.
Reedsville's Chuck Tuschl took the lead at the drop of the green and held the top spot
until lap nine when Hafeman stormed through the field from his seventh spot to take the
lead. An Al Dirkman spin on lap 10 bunched up the field. On the restart Ostrowski passed
Lee Mohs for second and tried reeling in Hafeman. Ostrowski was able to chop away at
Hafeman's lead when the leader encountered lapped traffic with ten laps to go. As the
white flag was displayed, Ostrowski chose the high side and passed a pair of lapped cars
while Hafeman got briefly got tied up with the lapped machines. Ostrowski hung on for the
win. Hafeman settled for second place money. Chad Kistner, Paul Pokorski and Tim McMullen
rounded out the top five finishers.
De Pere's Jay Matthias lost the lead to Dan Ratajczak and then repassed Ratajczak on lap
19 to capture his second, 25 lap IMCA modified feature win.
From his pole position Brian Joski jumped into the lead, keeping that spot through a pair
of cautions for stalled cars in the first nine laps. On the lap nine restart Joski
surrendered the lead to Ratajczak, who snuck inside Joski coming out of turn two. One lap
later Matthias copied Ratajczak's move to take the lead out of two.
A lap 13 caution tightened the field, and Ratajczak regained the lead on lap 16 using the
outside groove. Matthias repassed Ratajczak three laps later using the inside groove and
held Ratajczak off in a photo finish to collect his second feature flag of the season. For
the second straight week Ratajczak played bridesmaid, taking second. Points leader Benji
LaCrosse charged through the field his way through the field from his 16th starting spot
to take third. Danny Deau and Eddie Muenster took fourth and fifth, respectively.
Casco's "Mad Matt" Junio led wire-to-wire, leading all 22 laps en route to
victory in the 22 lap IMCA stock car feature. The win was Junio's second in three days, as
he won two nights earlier at Thunder Hill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay.
Junio wrestled the lead away from polesitter Laurel Ettien on lap two. Kyle Frederick
quickly tailed Junio and the pair broke away from the pack, waging their battle away from
their foes. Junio kept his machine glued to the bottom groove while Frederick preferred
the top line. Junio kept Frederick and company at bay to chalk up the win. Frederick kept
second, followed by Jason Czarapata, Brian Bruechert and Jamie Colwell, who took over the
points lead with his fifth place finish.
Hometown driver Dan "Hollywood" Davister took the lead with five laps to go to
win the 16 lap IMCA hobby stock feature. Freedom's Tim Jorgenson won the 15 lap sport four
feature. Sue Cherney of Mishicot won the 8 lap Lady 4 feature, her second of the season.
. Next Friday, August 19 The Rendezvous will sponsor the racing, which will feature the
fifth and final appearance of the season for the street stocks. The track's four weekly
divisions will also be in action, beginning at 7 p.m. For more information call 920 863
