LaCrosse Claims IMCA Modified
Feature Win, Point Title!
By Joe Verdegan |
September 1,
2006; Luxemburg, WI. -Hometown driver Benji LaCrosse
passed Chad Wilcox of Pulaski on lap 17 and went on to win his fifth
30 lap IMCA modified feature of the season at Luxemburg Speedway
Friday night.
LaCrosse also nailed down his second straight track championship and
his 12th feature win on area ovals.
103 cars were in attendance, including 30 IMCA modifieds, 37 IMCA
stock cars, 21 IMCA hobby stocks and 15 sport fours.
Scooter Boyea paced the opening circuit during
the 30 lap IMCA modified feature with Randy LeMieux Jr.giving chase
during the first six laps until Bill LeMieux looped his mount in
turn one on lap six. When racing resumed LaCrosse threaded his way
through the pack from 11th to third by lap seven while Chad Wilcox
passed Boyea for the lead.
A Shawn Kilgore spin on lap 10 tightened the field. On the restart
LaCrosse moved into second and began pressuring Wilcox for the lead.
LaCrosse ducked underneath Wilcox for the lead and lap 17 and never
looked back, chalking up his fifth win of the season. Wilcox held on
for second in his best finish of the season. LeMieux Jr. took third
while Jay Matthias charged through the pack from 17th to take
fourth. Boyea took fifth.
Hortonville's Travis Van Straten came out of his semi-retirement
mode, guest driving Nick Gille's IMCA stock car and sweeping the
division. Van Straten won his heat race and led every lap en route
to victory in the 30 lap feature.
Van Straten jumped into the lead at the drop of the green of the 25
lap IMCA stock car feature. Van Straten had built up a full
straightaway lead when Jason Czarapata and Matt Junio tangled on lap
13, drawing a yellow. When racing resumed Van Straten continued his
torrid paced, while a three car tussle ensued for second involving
Brian Bruechert, Kraig Gretz and Troy Muench.
Bruechert was able to shake his foes to take second and began
tracking Van Straten down for the lead. Bruechert caught Van Straten
with five laps to go, ducking underneath Van Straten on lap 23. Van
Straten was able to nip Bruechert at the line for the win by three
feet. Bruechert, Greg Gretz, Muench and Jamie Colwell rounded out
the top five finishers.
15-year-old Adam White of Oconto Falls fought off his uncle Joe
White on the final lap to win the 22 lap IMCA hobby stock feature,
his third of the season.
With two laps to go, leader Clint Forstner of Shawano spun, handing
the lead to Adam White. Keith Kickbush, Tom Brumlic and Jeff
Lautenbach rounded out the top five finishers.
Clintonville's Matt Oreskovich won the sport four feature, his
second of the season. De Pere's Tim Jorgenson claimed the track
title in that division.
