Siefert Snares Last Lap
Luxemburg IMCA Mod Win!
By Joe Verdegan |
July 27,
2007; Luxemburg, WI. -Points leader Jared Siefert of
Green Bay passed Shawn Kilgore of Kewaunee for the lead on the
last lap to capture his sixth, 25 lap IMCA modified feature at
Luxemburg Speedway Friday night.
A total of 110 cars were in attendance including 26 IMCA modifieds,
31 IMCA stock cars, 18 IMCA hobby stocks, 13 northern sportmods and
22 sport fours.
Danny Deau motored past Evan Madden for the
lead on the second lap of the 25 lap contest. Kilgore moved into
second by lap four and rode the high line around Deau to take the
lead on lap nine. Kilgore pulled away to a comfortable five car
length margin, which Dave Werbelow and Deau diced for second.
With seven laps to go Siefert stormed from his 11th starting spot,
into second with five laps to go. Siefert began pressuring Kilgore,
taking the lead as the white flag was displayed. Siefert hung on to
claim his sixth feature flag of the year. Kilgore settled for second
place money, followed by Deau, Dave Werbelow and Jason Czarapata.
Ellisville's Bob Waechter swept action in the IMCA stock car class,
winning his heat and fighting off pressure from brothers Jesse and
Jamie Colwell in the waning laps to capture his second feature of
the division.
Algoma's Tony Bouche outraced fellow front row starter Mike Gilson
into the lead at the drop of the green, only to surrender the top
spot to Waechter by lap five. Rod Snellenberger, who started ninth,
worked his way to third by lap five and wrestled second away from
Bouche on lap seven and began reeling in Waechter, who had
built up a five car length lead. Caution flew on lap 15, which
tightened the field. On the restart Snellenberger slapped the
frontstretch wall as Jamie and Jesse Colwell ducked underneath to
take second and third, respectively.
The Colwell brothers put heavy pressure on Waechter but Waechter was
up for the challenge, taking the win. Jesse and Jamie finished
second and third, respectively followed by Snellenberger and Brian
Bruechert.
Lomira's Jesse Kanas inherited the lead with two laps to go when
leader Dan Davister suddenly faded out of the top four, with Kanas
winning his third 18 lap IMCA hobby stock feature. Marcus Moede,
Dave De Grave, Chad Kaminski and Chris Christensen rounded out the
top five. De Pere's Tim Jorgenson fought off arch rival Eugene
Gregorich in the final laps to win his third 15 lap IMCA northern
sportmod feature of the year.
Oneida's Jason Cornelius won his second straight, 15 lap sport four
feature. In pre-race ceremonies Tony Bouche was honored by track
officials and his longtime sponsor Dorsch Ford Kia for his 30 years
of racing.
Next Friday night, August 3 the fifth annual Beverly Gardens
Luxemburg Legends night will take place. Former drivers spanning
four decades worth of racing will be honored during a ceremony
at intermission. 12 restored coupes and vintage modifieds will be on
