Welsing Dominates Luxemburg
Enduro!

2007; Luxemburg, WI. -- Veteran enduro racer
Todd Welsing sped away to the win Saturday afternoon in the first
ever 200 lap Tisler Salvage Compact Car Enduro at the Luxemburg
Speedway in Luxemburg.
Welsing topped an interesting field of competitors, including many
racers from the area enduro circuits as well as a collection of
Luxemburg's Friday night regulars.
Mark Mincheski, a former Street Stocker at
Luxemburg, looked to be the man to beat early. He took command on
the 50th lap, pulling away to what appeared to be a comfortable
lead. Welsing was locked in a battle for second with Pat Wassenberg
and two familiar faces to the Luxemburg racing scene - IMCA Modified
National champion Jared Siefert and former track modified champ
Eddie Muenster.
Mincheski's run was solid - but short - as he was collected in a
crash on the 64th lap while working through lapped traffic. The
incident ended his afternoon, handing the lead to Welsing.
Siefert was the next of the lead lap cars to drop. He worked quickly
into contention from last on the starting grid, but was a mechanical
casualty on the 82nd lap.
Welsing worked his way to a half-lap advantage over Wassenberg and
Muenster during the middle laps of the event. Their battle for
second ended abruptly as Wassenberg tangled with lappers, sending
his car into a roll down the backstretch on the 126th lap. Mike
Loberger was the only other car on the lead lap, but when racing
resumed, he headed for the pits, leaving only Welsing and Muenster.
Muenster was unable to chip away at the half-lap advantage Welsing
had built, and any hope he had of a late charge ended on the 181st
lap as the left rear suspension snapped.
At the checker, Welsing enjoyed a four lap advantage over second
place finishing Jeff Behm. Keith Graper, Brian Diener and Jay
Welsing rounded out the top five, all five laps down.
Along with Wassenberg, three other drivers also ended up on their
roofs during the course of the afternoon. James Bosman crashed hard
on the 44th lap after running with the leaders early. Bill Martin
rolled in the third turn, but was able to drive off to the pits,
although he dropped out for good a short time later. And after just
exiting from the pits, Travis Ragan took a nasty tumble through
three and four. None of the crashes produced any serious injuries.
