Lautenbach and Arneson Win
First Career Features at
Luxemburg
By Greg Aregoni |
June 1,
2007; Luxemburg, WI. - Jeff Lautenbach and Eric
Arneson both picked up their first career feature wins
in both the IMCA Hobby Stock and IMCA Northern Sportmod Features.
132 cars entered the pits looking
for feature wins including 38 IMCA Stockcars, 32 IMCA Modifieds, 20
IMCA Hobby Stocks, 19 Sportmods, and 23
4 Cylinders
The IMCA Stockcars were the first cars on the
track for their 22 lap feature event. Rob Waechter and Mark Derenne
took turns swapping the lead. Waechter used the bottom groove with
Derenne up on top. Waechter
finally took command on lap 6 and started to pull away. A caution on
lap 10 grouped the field allowing Jesse Colwell, Jamie Colwell and
"Hot Rod" Snellenberger to catch up. Hot Rod shot like a cannon on
the restart on the outside and grabbed the lead coming out of turn
two. Jesse Colwell quickly made his way to second and made his bid
for the lead.
Colwell made quick work of Snellenberger and pulled away from the
rest of the field to win his first feature of the season.
Snellenberger inched out Jamie Colwell for second followed by Matt
Junio, and Greg Gretz.
Chad Wilcox and Eddie Muenster led the field to the green flag of
the IMCA Modified 25 lap feature. Muenster grabbed the lead at the
drop of the green flag with Shawn Kilgore right behind. Kilgore
stayed right on the back bumper of Muenster as the two put distance
on the rest of the field. As the caution flew on lap 10 Sean
Jerovetz made his way to third. Jerovetz used the great restart to
get past Kilgore and Muenster for the lead. Kilgore was able to
maintain second but was never able to make a charge. Jerovetz
won in convincing fashion; picking up his first win of the season.
Kilgore was second, followed by Jared Siefert, Brian Mullen, and
Jeremy Jacobs.
Jeff Lautenbach had led every lap in his career in the IMCA Hobby
Stock division except the final lap. He has blown tires, broke
axles, and blown motors all on the last lap while leading the
feature. That all changed Friday Night. Lautenbach took the lead
from the drop of the green flag in the 16 lap IMCA Hobby Stock
feature. Lautenbach took off and wasn't
challenged until two laps to go when Jesse Kanas entered the
picture. Kansas tried both the High-line and the low-line but
couldn't make the pass. He tried one more time in turn three on the
white flag lap but wasn't able to make the pass. Lautenbach won his
first career feature followed by Kanas, Eddie Anschutz, Scott
Boulanger, and Brandon Peterson.
Dave Davister looked like the man to beat all race long in the IMCA
Northern Sportmod feature. With 4 laps to go and a ¼ lap lead
Davister came out of turn two and spun the car out. The caution for
the Davister spin grouped up the field with Eric Arneson inheriting
the lead. Arneson would continue to lead until Tim Jorgenson passed
him on the low-line. On
the white flag lap, Jorgenson pushed up the track but Arneson
wouldn't give up the high-line. Arnseson made one last attempt which
paid off as Arneson beat Jorgenson by inches at the line. The win
was Arneson's first career IMCA Northern Sportmod feature win.
Jorgenson settled for second followed by Adam White, Mark
Christenson and Tom Brumlic.
Andy Kleczka was unstoppable in the 4 Cylinder feature event.
Kleczka cruised to victory in his first win of the season at
Luxemburg.
Next Thursday at Friday Night is the IMCA Badger State Showdown.
