champion; Jesse Kanas, IMCA hobby stock champion. |
Siefert outdistanced
another former track champion, Luxemburg's Benji LaCrosse, by a
points margin of 663 to 597 points.
"It was almost like a dream season," said Siefert. "Without a hard
working pit crew I've got, my Dad Art and wife Sarah, none of this
would be possible." Siefert will have a brand new car at his
disposal as he will defend all of his racing titles.
In IMCA stock car action, Greenleaf's Jamie Colwell edged out his
brother Jesse Colwell by one slim point to capture the division's
crown, his first ever at the third-mile, clay oval.
Like Siefert, Colwell also plans on defending his title.
For three years now Lomira's Jesse Kanas made the nearly two hour
tow north to scrap in the IMCA hobby stock division. In 2007 Kanas'
efforts paid off by winning the division crown by eight points over
hometown driver Dave De Grave. While Kanas will compete at Luxemburg
occasionally in 2008, he does not plan on running weekly, which will
open the door for a new champion to be crowned.
Former sport four champion Tim Jorgenson quickly worked his way up
the learning curve in his maiden voyage in the IMCA northern
sportmod division. The De Pere hotshoe bested cagey veteran Eugene
Gregorich of Kewaunee by 31 marks to win the division crown. "I've
got a great crew but I've gotta thank Jerry Wilinski (fellow IMCA
modified driver) for getting me into this. He's kind of been my
mentor through this whole deal." Jorgenson will defend his crown,
in a division that could see as many as 30 cars weekly, including
the addition of 2007
IMCA Supernationals northern sportmod winner Tracy Wassenberg, who
announced he will run weekly at Luxemburg in 2008.
Pulaski's JJ Anderson fought off Suamico's Andy Kleczka by a points
margin of 517 to 489 to collect his first ever sport four
championship. Anderson has sold his sport four and will move up into
the northern sportmod class in 2008.
Rookie of the year honors in the IMCA modified division went to
Pulaski's Jason Czarapata, who placed a solid fourth in the final
point standings. Second generation driver Matt Theys of Luxemburg
took the rookie honors in the stock car class while hometown driver
Scott Boulanger turned some heads with a solid fifth place in the
hobby stock points, earning
him the rookie crown.
Luxemburg's Dennis Meisler won top rookie honors in the northern
sportmod class while Mark Sturm won the rookie crown in the sport
four division.
The annual sportsmanship award was given to Algoma veteran Tony
Bouche, who's racing career dates back to the winged modified days
in the 1970's.
A total of 381 drivers in five different divisions competed at the
track during weekly racing in the 2005 season. That field included 81
different IMCA modified drivers and 60 different IMCA stock car
drivers. A track record 57 different sport four drivers competed
during the weekly competition.
The 2008 season will kick off Friday night, April 18 at 7 p.m. IMCA
modifieds, stock cars, northern sportmods, hobby stocks and sport
fours will compete weekly through Labor day weekend. For more
